Shape the standards that shape our future: Join a NZ mirror committee
Camilla Ojansivu, Standards New Zealand
International standards influence everything from the safety of our buildings to the sustainability of our supply chains. But who gets to shape these standards—and how can New Zealand voices be heard? We will explore the critical role of mirror committees in representing Aotearoa New Zealand’s interests in international standardisation and how you can contribute your expertise, influence global decisions, and help ensure standards reflect New Zealand’s unique perspectives and priorities.

Integrated management systems: The suggested approach
Andrew Wills, Telarc
Covers how ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management, ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management and ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management System Standards can be linked together into one cohesive integrated management system that allows opportunity to improve at every level within a business and still meet the requirements of those standards. Eliminate the repetition and duplication of having separate systems and reporting for the benefit of an organisation.

Are auditors becoming extinct?
Christel Fouché, Beacon A.C.T. Limited
The average age of certification auditors is 64. Where are our future auditors (internal and external)? What are the challenges? Why do people not select auditing as a career path option? I believe that the following could be barriers: 1. Lack of knowledge about career path development (explain the five steps). 2. Not seeing it as a profession. 3. Lack of support from organisations. 4. Lack of funding. 5. It takes time to become a successful auditor – a 2- or 5-day course does not make you a competent auditor.

Understanding the ISO 45000 series of standards – It is not only about ISO 45001
Christel Fouché, Beacon A.C.T. Limited
Although ISO 45001 is the standard most of us are familiar with and is the standard organisations receive certification against, it is not the only standard in the ISO 45000 series. What am I saying? ISO 45000 is the discipline focussing on H&S. The first standard in each discipline is always the “Requirements for use” standard and the only one you can obtain certification against. I call this the No. 1 document. However, many other standards in the ISO 45000 discipline can assist you in understanding the 45001 standard better. The most important one is ISO 45002. This is the standard to guide you to implement ISO 45001 more effectively. I call it the standard that “holds your hand” while you are establishing the management system. Let me show you how… Additionally, the ISO 45003, 45004, 45005, 45006, 45007, 45008, and 45010 standards were recently launched. Let us have a look at each one briefly.

Artificial intelligence, governance & ISO 42001
Mieke Bond van den Brink, IQM Group
Artificial Intelligence is making its way into our daily work life at a rapid pace, bringing with it productivity improvements and changing how we approach information security and software amongst others. At the same time, there is a heightened need for trust, confidentiality & transparency in how an organisation approaches AI, and how we as customers need the same trust, confidentiality & transparency. This presentation addresses the need for governance across AI, how ISO 42001 assists organisations in achieving trust, confidentiality & transparency as well as a comparison between ISO 42001 for Artificial Intelligence and ISO 27001 Information Security.

Making purpose real: Why ISO 37011 matters and what it means for New Zealand businesses
Neil Gaught, Neil Gaught & Associates
This keynote will explore the rising global relevance of purpose in business — and how ISO 37011 provides a governance-based framework for embedding purpose into strategy, operations, and accountability. Drawing on two decades of international experience, I will introduce the Single Organizing Idea (SOI®) methodology as a practical approach that aligns with the standard and enables organisations to turn purpose into measurable progress.
The session will include global and local case examples, implications for auditors and certifiers and reflections on how New Zealand businesses can gain competitive advantage by embracing these developments rather than risk being left behind.
